Hi! I'm Luke Potter, The Urban Farmer. I'm a life-long gardener, teacher, avid home canner and author of gardening and home canning books. I love to share gardening advice with both expert and first-timers. And now, the fun part! Deciding what to grow! If you’re growing for just yourself, decide what you like and plant that. Plant what you’ll love and you’ll love what you grow. If you’re growing vegetables for your family, and no one likes Brussels sprouts, don’t grow them. Your kids love pickles? Grow cucumbers and learn how to make your own. Tomatoes are the most popular vegetable for the home gardener, even though they’re actually a fruit, so be sure to grow several varieties of them since, in my opinion, nothing beats the taste of a freshly plucked ripe tomato bursting with the flavor of summer.

I've been gardening for over 50 years and can't imagine a year without a garden. I've taught gardening and home canning to homeschool kids and written books and produced how-to videos on the topic. I believe that simple sustainability is the way for us to move forward as individuals, families and communities in this increasingly sterile and tech-driven world. I'm also an avid home canner and preserve everything I grow that I don't eat or give away. I march to my own drummer and invite you to do the same.
